The Isle of Wight NHS Trust currently provides community services at Ryde Outpatients Clinic and Swanmore House, both on Swanmore Road, Ryde. These services will transfer to the new clinic, located on nearby Pellhurst Road, in the coming months. Although an opening date has yet to be confirmed, it is envisaged the move will take place in late spring to early summer 2015.
All change at Shackleton House
Formerly known as Shackleton House, the building is being renovated to a high standard to offer a flexible community space, which offers patients and staff a better environment and more space for services that can be accessed more easily.
Services which will transfer to the new Pellhurst Road site include:
- Podiatry
- Physiotherapy, including Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, Pain Clinic and Acupuncture
- Phlebotomy
- Mental Health Services, including Psychological Therapies
- Health Visitors and Midwives
- Speech and Language
- Chronic Pain
Change to some clinics
A small number of specialist consultant-led clinics have relocated back to St Mary’s Hospital, including Urology, Colorectal Surgery and Gastroenterology. This means that follow-up tests, such as x-rays or ultrasound scans can be carried out at the same appointment, rather than the patient having to travel to hospital for an additional visit, and a further appointment to receive the results.
Patients will be able to attend the hospital’s Pre Assessment and Admissions Unit (PAAU) to receive an appointment on the same day and West Wight residents will have better access to clinics previously offered in Ryde.
Mark Pugh, the Trust’s Executive Medical Director, said:
“The buildings on Swanmore Road are no longer suitable and do not allow us to provide care in a high quality environment. The refurbished Pellhurst Road site means that we can offer services in a much more seamless way for our patients. We are really looking forward to the benefits it will bring to our patients.”
New benefits for patients
Among the many benefits are parking facilities for patients; a total of 15 car parking spaces will be available, which includes two disabled spaces, the majority of which are dedicated to patient-only parking.
The Trust has also worked closely with bus company, Southern Vectis, which has re-routed its Number 37 service to ensure it serves the new Pellhurst Road clinic.
Drop-in event
A drop-in event is being held to explain more about the latest developments. Everyone is welcome to attend the session, between 10am and 2pm on Wednesday 18 March at the George Street Centre, Ryde.
Arrangements are also being made for an Open Day to allow the community to visit the new Ryde Community Clinic on Pellhurst Road shortly before it is open to the public. Details of the arrangements for this event will be announced in due course.
