Preparation works for an essential scheme to stabilise the embankment on a bridge on Binstead Road have now been completed. This will allow the main works to begin on Monday 25 October which are now due to be completed by the end of January.
The scheme involves the stretch of road running from the former garage up to Rufflers Way. Although preparation works began in mid-September, to date temporary lights have only been required on a handful of occasions which has limited the impact of the works on Binstead Road.
Temporary lights
Temporary lights will now be in regular use from Monday 25 October although the lights are scheduled to be removed from the road over the Christmas holiday period to cut down on potential traffic delays. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area while temporary lights are in operation as delays are likely to occur.
Cllr Edward Giles, cabinet member responsible for transport said “Due to the complex nature of the works, the design elements have taken longer to detail than was scheduled which means the scheme will take a few weeks longer than was originally planned.
“Motorists and residents though have been very understanding that this scheme is essential if we are to prevent part of the road collapsing, which would lead to the road being closed for a very long period and cost a huge sum of money to repair, while of course losing the use of one of the Island’s main roads in and out of Ryde”
