Why not try your hand in new First World War writing competition?

Thanks to Jonathan for sharing news of this writing competition from the Isle of Wight Library service. Ed

The Island’s Libraries are running an exciting First World War writing competition to launch the Service’s war commemorations. We are looking for your original stories or poems which have a connection to World War I.

Group and categories
The competition is open to everyone, as there are three age groups; these are children (up to 11), teenage (12 – 17) and adult (18+).

Several writing styles and preferences are catered for, as you can submit entries in three genres – short story, poem or flash fiction.

Prizes, kindly supplied by Waterstones and the Library Service, will be awarded to the best three entries in each age group regardless of genre.

How to enter
The closing date for entries will be 12 July 2014, with prizes being awarded and the best entries being read out at a special First World War Commemoration Day, to be held at Newport Library on Saturday 2 August 2014.

The competition rules are embedded below (click on the full screen icon to see larger version) or email an enquiry to [email protected] They can also be picked up from your local library.
