Sorry for the lack of updates over the last week, things have been getting hectic here at Chez VentnorBlog in the run up to Christmas.
The Ventnor Lantern parade went really well. A huge green lizard lantern lead the procession through town, followed by about a hundred lanterns of various sizes and shapes, including some huge flower ones, which were amazing. The energetic Unidos Samba Band provided the music to give the event a great carnival feel.
I’ve gotta say that the turn out for the those taking part in the parade was brilliant, but I was surprised there weren’t more people watching (given how many people read the blog ;-)). Mind you, it was mighty cold that night. (Thanks to Alison for the photos)
So, what better to do after parading lanterns through town, than put your feet up, have a few glasses of mulled wine and enjoy the delights of the Ventnor Variety Performance at The Winter Gardens.
I’m not sure how best to describe the evening … it was quite something.
There were barber shop singers, poets, tap dancing seniors, am-dramers and our favourite, the excellent Blues Sisters (three 10 year old Ventnor girls) who gave us their rendition of the Mini the Moocher.
To top it all, we won three prizes in the raffle … rock on!
