Wow Fest: Public Meeting Tonight

Objectors to Wow Fest, a four day world music festival planned for August 2012, are meeting tonight to discuss the possiblity of appealing against the Isle of Wight council’s licensing committee’s decision to grant a license to the organisers of the event.

Wow Fest LogoA meeting is being held tonight at Shanklin Conservative Club from 6pm to which all residents are invited to attend.

On the agenda for discussion is the potential of an appeal, opposition to footpaths and rights of way closures and a campaign to boycott the event.

people are gonna boycott it how exactly? Not buy a ticket? frustrating, but a reality check here.

I think objecting to footpath closures, road access etc is the way forward. Just because they have a licence, it doesn’t mean they can get everything else they need to make it happen.

I’m concerned about the timing of the festival – the time of year when most families come over for their hols – to get away from the hustle and bustle of the mainland… Would put me off. It’ll be a nightmare booking ferries (which will no doubt rocket in price). The average holidaymaker will inject far more across the local economy than thousands of (mostly) 18-30s weekenders… Read more »

Sooner or later the general public will become brassed off with these interruptions to their daily lives. I don’t know why the Wight is not renamed Gridlock Isle.

I will not be ‘liking’ ‘no to WOWFest’ purely because I am not at all opposed to a festival of this size in this location.

I am however totally opposed to the organisors and would prefer the date to either earlier or later in the year.
