WowFest Announces Massive Acts (Update 3)

An amazing set of names have today been announced as playing WowFest.

Paul OakenfoldThey are huge names in the music business, such as Paul Oakenfold – one of the best known DJs in the world.

Other DJ names being promoted are Danny Rampling; Norman Jay; Smith & Mighty.

Rampling and Oakenfold are both listed as playing at Club Yeyo Italia ’90 night.

Wow Stage
Band names on the Wow Stage include The Pretty Things; The Selector; The Beat; Heaven 17; The Blockheads; Neville Staple of The Specials; Bad Manners.

One World stage
The One World stage sees reggae artists such as Maxi Priest; Misty ‘n Roots; Black Gandhi (Cuba); Terrakota (Portugal); Zambula (Uganda, Congo & Cornwall); Black Roots; Talisman; Baraka; Troy Ellis & the Hail Jamaica Reggae Band; The Phoenix Rose.

Blue Angel stage
Blue Angel stage lists Gregg Kofi Brown (Ghana); DJ Perry Louis & his JazzCotech Dancers; Joe Cang; Sarah Jane Morris; Cameron Pierre; Shez Raja Collective; Dennis Rollins with Velocity; Dixie Chicks; London Community Gospel Choir

On the World music side, Mano de Dios (Spain); Henry Padovani (Corsica)

African Village stage
On the stage labelled African Village groups Kakatsitsi – Master Drummers of Ghana; The !Gubi Family from Namibia; Sekou Keita from Senegal; Boujemaa Boubol – Gnawa – from Morocco; Chartwell Dutiro from Zimbabwe; Mosi Conde – Griot – from Guinea Bissou.

A stage named Shaved Fish promises an ‘Introducing’ stage showcasing breaking talent from across the UK.

Line up changed
Back in December, VB reported on the names of bands that WowFest was listing in their marketing material then, including Elbow; Annie Lennox; Sade; Roger Daltrey and Robert Plant.

None of those bands feature in the line-up on the current version of their site.

Background
The festival has been strongly resisted by some of the areas residents, including leader of the Isle of Wight council David Pugh. Despite this, it was granted a license back in September 2011.
