Wow! Looks like the organisers of the new, world-music festival, WOWFest, have grand plans for their debut line-up in 2012.
A document produced by organisers of the festival sent to VB by a reader, claims that some of those named for the Main Stage include popular acts such Elbow. Thousands of festival-goers will remember Elbow closing Bestival at Robin Hill several years ago.
Amazing names for the main stage
Annie Lennox, Paolo Nutini, Sade, Roger Daltrey, Robert Plant and The Pretty Things are all heading for the Main Stage too according to the document.
There are also great plans for the Global Stage with the Senegalese legend, Youssou N’Dour, joined by Levi Roots, Chaka Khan, Toots and the Maytals, Renegades Steel Orchestra and even Jimmy Cliff!
Jazz stage
Having run several Jazz Festivals, it’s no surprise that organisers of WOWFest are also planning a Jazz Stage, hoping to draw crowds for Corrine Bailey Rae, Liane Carroll, Genco, The London Gospel Community Choir and Sarah Jane Morris.
We’re not sure how accurate the details of this document are, but according to their tweet stream, organisers claim to have some great gossip to reveal next week. We’ll let you know if we hear more.
Despite wide-spread objection by locals, including a protest group led by council leader David Pugh, the festival received permission for a premises license earlier this year.
