Yarmouth celebrates D-Day’s 80th anniversary with the launch of a community book

There were no spare seats as Yarmouth Mayor, Debbie McCleary welcomed High Sheriff Graham Biss and his wife Sue, to a tea party for the launch of a community book, commemorating the 80th anniversary of D-Day 1944.

The event was attended by contributors, their families and supporters of the project.

Contributions from 90 locals
The book, with contributions from 90 people is a collection of the memories and photographs shared by people who live in Yarmouth, or who have a strong connection with the area when events of June 1944 were very close to the people of West Wight.

The High Sheriff spent the afternoon meeting contributors, and hearing some of their stories. Graham was presented with a copy of the book and his wife Sue received a bouquet of old roses, known to be grown in 1944.
