In October 2018 at the age of 31, Islander Reece Payne was diagnosed with stage four bowel cancer – just two weeks before finding out he was going to be a dad.
Nearly four years on and Reece now has two young girls with his partner Carly, who works full time at St Mary’s as a senior A&E nurse and has been his inspiration throughout the four-year ordeal.
Unfortunately, traditional treatment is no longer working to fight the cancer that has spread to other parts of Reece’s body.
£50,000 needed for new treatment
Since being diagnosed, Reece has been proactive in learning more about his cancer, and treatments for it, and has now discovered a treatment in Japan that he says has amazing results.
However, the cost of the treatment is around £50,000.
Tracy Eve, who has been helping to raise awareness of Reece’s plight told News OnTheWight that realistically he needs to be out in Japan by March 2023 at the latest.
Show your support
Many generous people have already shown their support by donating to the Fundraising pot, which has reached just over £13,000.
However there is still a long way to go, so his family are appealing for donations to help reach the target of £50,000.
With time being of the essence, any support would be greatly appreciated.
Reece’s journey
You can read more about Reece’s journey on his blog, which he set up to keep his family and friends up-to-date with what’s going on with his fight against cancer.
However, he also hopes documenting his journey can help others going through difficult times in their lives, raise awareness and offer some advice for young people suffering from bowel cancer.
