Each year during the school summer holidays the library service across the Island runs a campaign aimed at encouraging youngsters to carry on reading out of term time.
This year the Island saw over 2500 children take part in the summer reading challenge named ‘Quest Seekers’.
Once signed up the kids were tasked with reading at least six books in order to receive a certificate and medal – as well as all the cool scratch and sniff stickers along the way.
Once they got that far, they were invited to write a review or draw a picture of their favourite book of the summer.
The winning entries have now been selected and the children will be awarded their prizes this Saturday at the Lord Louis Library in Newport.
Isle of Wight Council Cabinet member with responsibility for children Dawn Cousins said “The Summer Reading Challenge encourages children to discover the pleasures of reading, and to keep up their reading skills outside school.
“Although the challenge has now finished until next year, children can continue to explore the pleasures of reading because all the Island’s libraries stock a wide range of books for all ages and they’re all free”
