The Principal of Christ the King College, Mrs Pat Goodhead, has today announced in a Newsletter to all parents of students at the College that the College is to receive funding for a complete rebuild as part of the Government’s Priority Schools Building Programme.

Commenting today, Local Campaigner for Newport West Ward in which Christ the King College is located, Chris Whitehouse says, “Christ the King College has been working hard for this result. I also personally met the Minister for Schools recently to discuss the matter.

“Since then I have discussed the need for major rebuilding of both Carisbrooke College and Christ the King College with the Island MP, Andrew Turner, and with the Leader of the Council, David Pugh. This is fantastic news for the College.”

Explore moving to a new site?
But the news could be even better for local residents, argues Whitehouse, saying, “There are no less than five schools in the immediate area of Wellington Road, Newport. They are all great schools; staff and students are rightly proud of them, but there are simply too many of them.

“We must now explore whether the opportunity of the rebuilding at the College can enable it to move to a brand new site, reducing impact upon local residents who do currently experience severe problems with traffic congestion at school run time and noise at other times of the day. Such a move would be great for Christ the King and great for local residents. A win win!”
