Speedway: A chance meeting in Warsaw leads to first race backing

This in from Bryn in his own words. Ed

It sounds almost too good to be true but a chance meeting encountered in Warsaw by Island Speedway joint boss Barry Bishop has led to speedway fan Jason Waring deciding to get involved and support the club.

Barry Bishop explained,

“After the recent Warsaw GP I happened to be meeting some friends from Berwick in a Warsaw bar. Overhearing Jason talking about the GP, we invited him over to our table and I begun to tell him about plans to bring speedway back to the Isle of Wight. So upbeat was Jason during our conversation he offered there and then to sponsor a race if we managed it pull it off.

“Well, we are far enough along the process now to proudly accept Jason’s offer and he will be our first heat sponsor. It is amazing what the speedway family does to support each other and Martin and I believe that Jason’s offer of support is one of our most personal and significant to our club and we thank him for that. Of course, we cannot wait for him to visit Smallbrook to show him around the stadium and I am sure he will try to combine his visit with a try at speedway with My First Skid!”

A very enthusiastic Jason said,

“After meeting Barry and hearing that he wanted to bring speedway back to the island, and how passionate he was about it, I felt and wanted to get involved in some way. That’s when I offered to sponsor the first race of the first meeting . I think it’s great news and wish Barry, Martin, the other sponsors who’ve got behind this, and of course the Islanders, all the best and look forward to meeting and seeing everyone there next year.”

Martin and Barry wish to formally thank Jason for his fantastic offer of support and would welcome anyone else interested in supporting our club to get in touch. More details can be found on the club’s ‘Island Speedway’ Facebook page, via Twitter @islandspeedway and soon our website too which currently is being refreshed by Bravo14 will soon be re-launched.
