‘Young Persons Discount Card’ Launched by Southern Vectis

'Young Persons Discount Card' Launched by Southern VectisSouthern Vectis have announced that they are to launch a new ‘Young Persons Discount Card’ to help school leavers.

As many will know the ‘Student Rider’ scheme, which provides all those in full time education up to the age of 19 a flat fare of £1 for all journeys.

The new scheme will help those who leave full time education, but perhaps start off in low income jobs to carry on travelling with discounted fares.

Marc Morgan Huws, Commercial Manager at Southern Vectis says

“We recognise that many young people leave education for work or further training at relatively low income levels, and we are keen to help them to carry on using our buses at an attractive rate.”

The ‘Young Persons’ Discount Card’ will give those leaving the Student Rider scheme, a year of half price travel. This covers single fares, as well as Rover and Freedom passes.

If you think you qualify for a ‘Young Persons Discount Card’ all you need to do is take your current Student Rider card (expiring on 5 September 2008) into Newport Travel Shop, along with a current passport photo.

Marc Morgan Huws said

“Young People are central to our future business, and many of them have a high degree of environmental awareness and want to carry on using public transport. We are also aware that when starting out in work or training, transport costs can be a high proportion of income. We hope this scheme will help to make school leavers mobile within the work and social environment, and offer them an incentive to keep on using environmentally friendly public transport.”
