100 years of Ventnor 1st Girl Guides (Podcasts and video)

Back at the end of June, we were fortunate enough to be invited along to the 100th anniversary celebrations for the Ventnor 1st Girl Guide group.

We watched on as County Secretary for Girl Guiding IW, Suzanne Whitewood gave an informative and amusing record of the Girl Guides through the ages, whilst current-day guides modelled the uniforms (on loan from the County archive) through the decades.

The girls from Ventnor Guides, the very first girl guide group on the Island, went on to perform a variety of drama sketches, songs, musical recitals and group sing-a-long, encouraging former guides in the audience to join in.

It was wonderful to witness the innocence and wholesomeness of the fellowship between the guides of all ages.

Girl guides past and present
After the presentations, we were able to look at the displays of old photographs, uniforms and chat to former girl-guides, as well as current ones.

The Guides made a banner showing what was important to them about being a Guide. We shot a short video of it, that you can see below.
