A press release just in from the Isle of Wight Council (IWC) informs us that from April a new type of parking permit will be available to Island residents.
Replacing the current Island Residents Parking Permit, the ‘Long Stay Parking Permit’ allows all day parking in any IWC run long-stay car park.
How much?
The big question for many will be how much?
The new permits will be available in either 3, 6 or 12 monthly periods.
- A three month permit will cost £135
- A six month permit will cost £260
- A yearly permit will cost £500.
You won’t be able to use these permits in short-stay or shoppers cars parks or the car parks at Dinosaur Isle and Browns Golf Course and also Ventnor Botanic Garden.
Available from 1 April 2010, it is designed to replace the Island Residents Permit (IRP) and the Island Business Permits (IBP).
Both the IRP and the IBP will no longer be valid from 31 March, including for eco-friendly cars, but can still be purchased on a pro-rata basis between now and then.
Isle of Wight Council Cabinet member responsible for transport Edward Giles said “Each payment option works out to paying less than £1.60 a day to leave a car all day in a long stay car park, which will help workers and daily commuters as it works out to less than a third of what it would cost to feed a meter all day.
“We feel that is very good value for money and gives people the option of saving on parking charges, following the budget decision to discontinue the Island Residents Permit”
Further information on the new permit is available by calling the council on (01983) 823714
Update: Following some confusion as to whether existing permits will still be valid, the IWC have confirmed that they will be honoring all existing permits until their expiry date.
