As those reading the report from Monday night’s Ventnor Town Council (VTC) meeting will already know, a new Entertainments Manager has been appointed for the Winter Gardens.
A whopping 41 people responded to the job ad for the six month post, which was advertised in The Stage, County Press and as readers will remember, on VentnorBlog (conclusively proving wrong those in the audience at a former VTC meeting who questioned whether anyone would apply for a six month position).
The lucky candidate, Simon Wheeler, chosen from the 20 who formally applied for the position has been a performer himself for 20 years in production shows, summer seasons, pantomimes and cabarets so should know a thing or two about entertainment.
As well as taking part on stage, he also has experience as a Cruise Director for Seabourn Cruise Lines, Performer and Company Manager for Qdos Entertainments, Resident Director and Tour Manager for Qdos Entertainments and most latterly, as Production Manager for Smile Productions and Cabaret Performer.
Simon will start work immediately developing a full programme of activities for the summer holidays.
Keep an eye on the Winter Gardens page on Events on the Wight for forthcoming shows.
Full details of the process that took place for the recruitment (PDF) are available online.
It is great to see such transparency taking place, following previously undocumented appointments as detailed in the 2009 Audit Report.
