New Parking Permits From January 2011

If you haven’t read through the live coverage of the Full council meeting or our summary piece the next day on how county councillors voted on the various items, you won’t have realised that new parking permits are coming into force next year.

New Parking Permits From January 2011Following the abolition of the residents’ parking permits earlier in the year and council consultation with residents and businesses, two new permits will be introduced.

Residents’ parking permit
The first new permit is a residents parking permit.

It will enable residents “to park in a single designated Isle of Wight Council car park within 200m of their home”.

The cost of this new permit is £150 and is only valid in the designated car park.

Tourist parking permit
The other new permit is a “town specific tourist permit allowing parking in a designated town only, at the same level of rates being applied during the 2010 summer season”.

The intention of the two permits to a ensure easier parking for those who live in towns where off-street parking is minimal, such as Newport and Ventnor.

Further changes in next budget review
It’s likely that we’ll hear more changes to permit arrangements, and costs at the February 2011 council meeting.
