When the QE2 retired back in October 2008, Red Funnel ran a very popular trip, allowing those who wanted to see her set off for her final cruise, a chance to watch the spectacular event.
Demand was so great that their initial offer sold out within a day or so!
Details of the Queen Elizabeth trip
Being on the ball, Red Funnel is arranging trips again, but this time they’re expanding their offering.
Those who want to see the new, £365m Queen Elizabeth set off on 12 October on her Maiden Voyage from Southampton – her home port – along with the ensuing fireworks display, have two options – the Red Eagle, or the Red Jet, the latter includes a buffet.
It’s going to be quite a sight. The Queen Elizabeth is approx 30% heavier that the QE2, weighing in at 92,000 GRT and has a complement of close to 1,000 staff to look after her 2,068 guests.
This baby is so substantial that she has her own 800+ seat Royal Court Theatre on-board.
