In the New Year the BBC, with Professor Brian Cox (pictured), will be broadcasting a live Stargazing event on the BBC2.
In conjunction with this, the Isle of Wight Observatory are holding a free event at the Observatory on Wednesday 5th January.
Hands-on activities
It’s going to be an evening of hands-on activities supervised by the Society’s experienced amateur astronomers.
There’ll be two talks, one by from Brian Curd, the Observatory Director entitled “Isle of Wight and the Universe: Where do we fit in?”
The other is by Dr Lucy Rogers, author of “It’s ONLY Rocket Science”, our very own rocket scientist and is entitled “Constellations and Starrytelling”.
There will also be tours of the dome, ten types of telescopes and various binoculars, Celestron SkyScout (a star finder) and giant binoculars.
