Police Appeal For Witnesses To CollisionPolice are continuing to investigate a road traffic collision in Newport on the Isle of Wight.

Officers were called at 3.45pm on Thursday, December 16, 2010 to the entrance to Newport Bus Station at the junction of South Street and Orchard Street

A single decker bus had been involved in a collision with a pedestrian, a 28-year-old man from the Isle of Wight.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital to be treated for serious injuries.

No other injuries were reported.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said: “Police officers would like to thank witnesses who stopped to help and give information at the scene.

“Our enquiries remain focused on establishing the full circumstances surrounding the collision.

“CCTV footage is being examined and we believe there could be more witnesses who would remember events just before the collision happened. This area of Newport town centre was busy with pedestrians and motorists last Thursday afternoon (December 16).”
