The 2011 Minghella Film Festival is drawing closer.
This year sees the first ‘Minghella International Short Film Festival’ take place as part of the main festival, which was set up in 2009 as a legacy to Island-born film maker, Anthony Minghella.
The competition closes to entries on 29th January and we hear from organisers that over 200 entrants will be shown at Cineworld over the festival weekend.
Judges for the competition have also been announced who include Isle of Wight actor Melvyn Hayes and actress Neve McIntosh (she featured in last year’s premiered film, The Be All and End All, pictured).
Free tickets to under 19s
Another great piece of news is that The Short Film Festival has free tickets for under 19’s and students when they register.
The Island and Under 19’s category in the competition was created in Anthony Minghella’s memory, to help grow talent from the Oscar-winning director’s former home.
Amazing what can be captured
Bruce Webb, multiple award winning film producer, director and Minghella Short Film Festival organiser says, “The International Short film Festival gives people the opportunity to see groundbreaking films that you would never get to see anywhere else. Films are diverse and include themes of love, made from the heart and showing the frailty of human nature. These films resonate in the style of Anthony Minghella and the legacy he left the film industry. It’s amazing what these filmmakers manage to capture in less than 30 minutes. Anyone interested in film should come along to the festival to see the films and mix with the greats from this industry.”
Make sure you keep the weekend free as there’ll be loads to see and take part in.
