Weekly Ad, the free weekly advert paper distributed on the Isle of Wight since 1986, will cease at the end of this month, twenty five years after it started.
Based in Lake, it currently runs to 16 pages.
The County Press group bought the then-twenty years old paper in July 2006 for an undisclosed amount, citing a weekly distribution of 21,000 copies at the time.
About two years later, they launched the online version, which hasn’t ever really been embraced by the Island, with other online services proving more popular.
The paper has put out the following message …
We are proud to have served The Island for 25 years, but the severe and prolonged economic downturn, combined with the development of on-line advertising services, have had a major effect on our business.
At the same time, the cost of paper has increased substantially. These factors have meant that our business is no longer viable.
We would like to thank all our many customers for supporting us so loyally over the years.
