Fire At Old Savoy Hotel, Sandown (photo gallery +video)

Last updated:

Fifty fire fighters are currently tackling a fire in the long-time derelict Savoy Hotel in Sandown.

Fire at Savoy Hotel SandownThe fire broke out earlier this evening just before 8pm.

Seven pumps are tackling the fire inside the building which is on the corner of Avenue Road in Sandown.

It’s not thought that any people were inside the building at the time of the fire.

Appliances from Newport, Cowes, East Cowes, Ryde, Bembridge, Shanklin, Sandown and Yarmouth are all on the scene.

We’re told that the Building Inspector is also present to determine the safety of the structure.

Our thanks to VB readers, Eric Lawson, Yetta Elkins and Keith Carroll who have been sending through images and videos (to follow shortly).

It’s claimed on VB’s Facebook page that this is the second fire at the building since June.

Im sure the owner is overjoyed it mysteriously caught fire again for the 2nd time this year. Lets hope it is restored to its former glory and the sandown circus rejuvenated. http://www.flickr.com/photos/cairnsb/4802224243/in/set-72157623113446782

still flames evident at midday today, but been told it is officially out.

Firebrigade have been amazing…they attended within three minutes of being called and at no time looked in anyway anything other than in total control…We had the surreal experience of being across the road from a major fire listening to a band play ‘sex on fire’…….
