Long-time VB readers will know that we’re big fans (and advocates) of local music. So, it’s fantastic to hear that Isle of Wight band, CHAMPS, have recently signed a deal with record label.
The three piece features Nitonians Michael Champion, David Champion (both of The Shutes) and Tom Gardner (The Bees, The Motion Pictures).
The deal was signed back in May with Play it Again Sam Records, the record company wing of the PIAS Entertainment Group, who are the largest distributor of music produced by independent labels in the world.
In good company
Champs will be joining the likes of Editors, Seasick Steve, Agnes Obel on the label, who were also responsible for breaking Sigur Ros and Mogwai.
This weekend sees their first live gig at a ‘PIAS nite’ in Dublin.
It’s not just VB who are big fans of Champs though, Dermot O’Leary has been playing their stuff and a little while ago they did a live session in the studio with him for the BBCR2 Dermot O’Leary Show.
Listen to live session with Dermot
Make yourself a cuppa, put your feet up and sit back to enjoy the chinwag and live music.
It finishes with a cracking cover of T-Rex’s Cosmic Dancer.
