High tides may affect floating bridge this weekend

This in from the council in relation to the floating bridge (referred to by them as the chain ferry). Readers will remember last time the high tide affected the floating bridge. Ed

High spring tides, coupled with heavy rain and strong winds are expected to cause disruption to Cowes chain ferry this weekend.

Crossings could be suspended around the times of high tide, which on Friday is approximately midday and midnight. If water levels become high enough to stop the chain ferry operating, it will not be possible to operate a passenger launch as the pontoons that would need to be used would also be underwater.

Cannot guarantee the service won’t be suspended
Although the council will keep the service running for as long as it can it cannot guarantee the service won’t be suspended so people are advised they may need to make alternative arrangements for getting between Cowes and East Cowes around the times of these high tides.

This weekend, high tides in Cowes are as follows:

Friday 0024 and 1149
Saturday 0116 and 1236
Sunday 0158 and 1330
