Readers will remember back in August, Simon Hayes, the Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, became the subject of an investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
It followed an accusation of not being registered as living in Hampshire during the Police and Crime Commissioner election process.
No further action
The IPCC yesterday (Monday) announced the outcome of their investigation revealing that Mr Hayes had been interviewed under criminal caution.
Details from that investigation were given to the CPS, who decided that no further action was to be taken.
Business as usual
In response to the outcome of the investigation, Simon Hayes said,
“The IPCC and the CPS have considered whether there were any irregularities relating to my residency at the time of my nomination. The complaint made by the losing candidate that I did not live in Hampshire was considered by the IPCC to be without merit. I am naturally pleased at the finding. In addition I can confirm that the CPS has considered that there was no evidence to suggest that there was anything improper in my nomination form.
“Although an intrusion into my personal life, this has not distracted me from my responsibilities to the people of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. I am satisfied that the matter has been thoroughly investigated and I have been found to have done nothing wrong.”
