Shaw Taylor - TV screen grab

Shaw Taylor MBE dies

Very sad to hear that Shaw Taylor MBE passed away last night (Tuesday) at his home in Totland.

The Isle of Wight actor and presenter was best known for his role in Police 5, the five minute police appeal programme, where the catchphrase “keep ’em peeled” was born.

The programme first screened in 1962 and was the forerunner to many of the crime-related programmes that are common place today.

Tribute to a great friend
Peter Coleman, Chair, The Friends of Shanklin Theatre said,

“The Shanklin Theatre has lost a great friend in Shaw, who still in later years attended performances at the Theatre and contributed to keeping the Theatre open. Not everyone will know that as a young actor before his Television career, many of his early acting parts were at the Theatre, memories which he still cherished. Shaw will be sadly missed by all his friends at the Theatre.”

The 90 year old leaves behind his partner, Shirley.

Our thoughts are with Shaw’s family, friends and colleagues.
