The headteacher of St Francis Primary School in Ventnor, Miss Angela Hewkin, will be making a sudden departure tomorrow (Friday).
“Right time to move to mainland”
Miss Hewkin, who has worked in education on the Isle of Wight for 15 years, said,
“After thirty five years in education as teacher, Deputy Headteacher and finally Headteacher, across three different authorities, I feel that the time has come for me to retire.
“For 15 years I have dedicated myself to the education of children on the Isle of Wight. This began in September 2000 when I became Headteacher at St Wilfrid’s and then was proud to be integral to the successful merger of the three Ventnor primary schools into St Francis Catholic & Church of England Primary School.
“All of my close family live on the mainland, are now retired and have been actively encouraging me for some time to step back from my current role which has demanded a significant part of my time and has compromised my availability to taking a greater part in family events and holidays.
“I have given the matter a great deal of thought and decided that if I am to move to the mainland this is the right moment.
“I have enjoyed knowing and working with all of the children, staff, governors and parents over the years and wish the pupils and my colleagues the very best for the future.”

OnTheWight contacted the school for further info, but were told a press release was being released next week and they were not able to comment further.
The most recent Ofsted report inspection (December 2014) reported that,
“Senior leaders and governors are not taking effective action to tackle the areas requiring improvement identified at the last section 5 inspection and plans are not sharply focused on rapidly bringing about improvement.”
