Limited details have emerged about this so far. Here’s what we know as yet.
At around 2.15am this morning (Monday), a 42-year-old man with burns walked into the Sainsbury’s store in High Street, Cowes and asked for help from the members of staff there.
Isle of Wight Police have now launched an investigation.
The man said the burn injuries occurred as he’d been involved in a fire.
He was taken to St Mary’s Hospital and is awaiting transfer to the mainland. His condition is described as serious.
The area around the store is currently cordoned off while police conduct their investigation.
