VB readers will remember that last week we took a look ahead at the weather forecast which returned a 92% chance of snow for the Island from tonight.
A lot can change in a week on the weather front and it now looks like the snow is delayed slightly.
The Met Office are predicting that from 5pm tonight “a band of rain and sleet will move southwards during this afternoon and evening with very cold air following. This will lead to widespread ice forming on untreated surfaces as the rain and sleet clears away, leading to dangerous driving conditions.”
This will mean very icy roads overnight and tomorrow, so do take extra care if driving around the Island.
Snow for the weekend
If it’s the snow you’re interested in, you’ll have to wait until the weekend.
The Met Office are currently advising an early severe weather warning, with a 60% chance of heavy snow from 3am on Saturday.
A band of heavy snow will move northeastwards across England and Wales during Saturday. 5-10 cm of snow is expected widely, with the possibility of 20-25 cm accumulating in places, particularly across parts of the Midlands, Wales, and southern England.
This could cause widespread disruption to travel networks and sporting events.
We’ll update you when the next update comes out from the Met Office, but probably best to pencil in ‘having fun in the snow’ for this weekend.
