81-year-old woman died at scene of collision with lorry – Police appeal for witnesses

Police are appealing for information and witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision in Newport.

At about 3pm yesterday (16th January), a pedestrian was involved in a collision with a lorry on High Street, near the junction with St James Street.

Sadly the pedestrian, an 81-year-old woman from Totland, died at the scene.

Her family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Driver arrested
A 24-year-old man from Bembridge was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and has been released under investigation.
