Besides the Solent transit disruption, trees down and power-outages around the Isle of Wight today, news reaches us that a barge in Bembridge had a bit of a moment.
A Dutch barge, moored in Bembridge, parted three of its four lines in the high winds.
At about 7am this morning, the person on board felt the boat moving around violently only to find that the boat had snapped three 40mm lines – A first for them.
Rotated 180 degrees
The bow-lines stayed attached, acting as a pivot point, so the boat rotated 180 degrees.
The Bembridge Harbour Master was called, helping to get some extra lines on it.
As the tide dropped, they had no option but to secure it facing the opposite direction.
Secured again
Rob Lowe, the boat’s owner, told VB that once the tide is back in and wind allows, the boat will be moved back along the pontoon, securing it on the portside.
Bembridge RNLI were called out, went around but found that as it was hard on the side on the harbour, that there wasn’t much they could do.
VB understands that Bembridge Coastguard also attended.
Thanks for the story tip
Thanks to V4x4R for getting in touch with VB. They saw it as they were driving past.
