Naturezones has been awarded £9,200 from Awards for All to support their new Post Graduate Volunteer programme.
Founder of Naturezones, Angela Hewitt, told OnTheWight,
“At Naturezones we believe it is important that students University and College education does not go to waste at a time when young people are finding it is difficult to get paid work.
“As well as conservation land management skills we will encourage skills such as scientific surveys around climate change and the effects on nature and wildlife and what adaptations are required as environments change by enhancing habitats etc.
“By providing an opportunity for young local people to put their qualifications into practice it also supports for the future posterity of the local communities, natural environment on the Island, as well as their own future prosperity.
“Students will have mostly completed but not exclusively, degrees in Environment and Conservation studies, Zoology, Biology, World Conservation, Horticulture etc.”
Post Graduates and college leavers can find out more about the scheme on the Naturezones website. They are also looking for the right qualified person to run the scheme.
Angela went on to say,
“We have been supported by the Lottery Community Fund and the Heritage Lottery for nearly 20 years. It is thanks to them that we have created such an amazing and dynamic Wildlife Education Centre. The aim of this particular grant is to support local University and College leavers build their knowledge and experience in managing such a centre as ours.”
