Job Centre sign:

A continued seasonal fall in those claiming Job Seekers Allowance

Figures for unemployed claimants came out this morning which show that 2,905 people on the Isle of Wight were claiming Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) in June 2013.

Unemployment Benefit figures released by the Office for National Statistics show a fall of 305 since May 2013, which reported 3,210 JSA claimants, and a fall of 81 from June 2012 (2,986).

That means 3.5% of the resident population of area aged 16-64 is claiming JSA – 1.3% more than the rest of the South East (2.2%), and the same as the whole of the UK (3.5%).
