With just over a week to go until the start of the 2012 Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week, organisers have planned a varied programme of shore-side events and activities to complement the race schedule, enabling everyone to find something of interest to them.
See the Royal Navy Solo Lynx
In this special “Best of British” year on Saturday 11th August there will be a display (weather permitting) of a Royal Navy Solo Lynx at 19:00 off The Parade.
Family Day (Sunday 12 August) takes place with a number of initiatives in place to help families get the most out of their time at the regatta.
There will be a range of free and discounted activities which include flag-making and painting competitions for children in the Ondeck VIP area of Cowes Yacht Haven, held in conjunction with Cowes Primary School, from 11:00 – 14:30 and remote-controlled model-boat racing off Trinity Landing in the early evening.
Jazz in the Haven
On Monday 13th August in Cowes Yacht Haven Jazz FM present at 20:00 Kas Simmons and at 22:00 Yolanda Brown and Wednesday 15th August sees local band (they opened the Sunday at the 2011 IW Festival) Stu Collins in Cowes Yacht Haven at 20:00.
Ladies Day (Thursday 16 August)celebrates women in sailing. With the focus for Ladies Day being recognition of the major successes of women in one of the few mainstream sports where men and women compete on equal terms.
Ladies Day also celebrates and recognises sporting prowess across a wider range of sports and, working in partnership with the Women’s Sport and Fitness Foundation (WSFF) and the event’s sponsors, a number of female achievers across a range of sports will come together at the regatta in celebration of Ladies Day.
“Best of British”
“Best of British” Celebration Day (Friday 17 August) CWL is delighted to announce the involvement of Skandia Team GBR sailors at this year’s regatta.
This team will be present just one week after competing for Great Britain at the London 2012 Olympic Games and Friday will culminate in the traditional fireworks display, taking place at 21:30.
Live music throughout
All through the week there will be live performances on The Parade, Cowes High Street, Cowes Yacht Haven and East Cowes Marina.
Other activities in Cowes Yacht Haven will include Whisky Mentoring hosted by an expert from Talisker Whisky, Rock Up and Rib from Ondeck and ‘Get ready to Race’ a competition presented by Gill clothing.
There are various events being held at Northwood House which is now run by a trust. Events include lunches on Ladies Day.
