The Isle of Wight council's Constitution states that petitions require over 2,500 signatures (made in person on paper) in order to be brought to Full Council meetings as an official agenda item.

In 2012 members of the local community formed the Friends of Frank James with the aim of protecting and conserving the premises which has fallen derelict over the years. Ownership issues are complex, but discussions are moving forward with the Isle of Wight council to find viable solution.
