After speaking to witnesses and reviewing CCTV footage, Police say there is no evidence of third party involvement
The Gaiety Pavilion was built in the late 1890s during the Victorian boom in Ventnor as a theatre venue for seaside entertainment.
In more recent times it was used as an amusement arcade, but has been closed for over a decade.
In 2019, the new owners of the site received planning permission to demolish the existing buildings and build a new dwelling, recreating the beauty of the original pavilion.
On Tuesday 7th June 2022, a fire broke out in the site – which was in the process of being demolished. It’s not yet known whether the original steel structure can be retained for the new dwelling.
