Ventnor seafront: Three four-floor houses could replace low-rise Gaiety

The charm of standing on Ventnor Esplanade and looking up at the Victorian terraces is well be on its way to being totally eradicated.

First there was The Metropole, built taller than the derelict building it replaced. Then there was planning approval for a four-storey tower and three-floor town houses on the site of the Mill Bay’s garden.

Now, the long-whispered about plans for demolition of the Gaiety Amusement Arcade have been made public.

More flats proposed
The plans are for three four-floor houses to comprise of seven flats.

The properties look very elegant, but the total height of the terraced building is taller than the recently-restored house to the right, Villa Amanti.

The planning application forms declare the applicant as Wilky Investments Limited (a Guildford-based property development company), but notice has been given to a Mr J Sanders of Brighton – presumably the owner or freeholder for the property, as well as the IWC (Island Roads).

Have your say
Residents have until 21st November to submit their comments to the Isle of Wight council.

This can be done in writing or online through the iwight planning Website.
