Peter Spink was elected in May 2021 as a Conservative councillor for the Freshwater North and Yarmouth ward.

In May 2023 he left the Conservative group of councillors over a disagreement on planning committee voting records.

He stated at the time that he would remain a member of the Conservative Party, but a week later joined the Empowering Islanders Group.
