Adriano Adevale Group

Quay Arts are anticipating an energetic and vibrant evening when Adriano Adewale the effusive Brazilian percussionist and his group perform in the Anthony Minghella Theatre next month.

Adriano Adevale GroupAdriano Adewale was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Formerly Adriano Pinto he changed his birth name after rediscovering his roots on a visit to Africa (Nigeria and Benin Republic).

He moved to London in 2000 and formed his first UK band Sambura, which released one album, Cru.

Performing at various festivals and venues, Adriano was introduced to Antonio Forcione and soon became part of the Antonio Forcione Quartet whose blend of jazz, African and Brazilian elements have enthralled audiences worldwide.

For this performance Adewale’s vocals, vibrant composition and extremely versatile percussive palette is enhanced by the delicacy of Senegalese Kadialy Kouyate playing on kora and vocals, Australian Nathan Riki Thomson on double bass, flutes and rabeca and fellow Brazilian Marcelo Andrade playing folksy jazzy flute, saxophone and violin.

He has collaborated with other great musicians including Seu Jorge, Modeste Hughes, Netsayi Chigwendere, Oliver Mtukudzi (Zimbabwe), Tcheka (Cape Verde) and Jools Holland.

Adriano Adewale Group release their debut album Sementes on 22 September 08.

“There are no theme-and-solos cliches, only creative originals, dipping into different traditions to make something eclectic, bright and distinctive. The vibe is exhilarating.” **** Manchester Evening News

“”¦Sementes benefits from a loose, folky, jazz feel and nuances that separates it from your average world groove recording.” *** Jazzwise
