Last Monday evening saw representatives from around fifteen Ventnor businesses meet up at The Royal Hotel.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the future of the Ventnor Business Association. With a lot of ‘new blood’ around the table, the atmosphere was pretty dynamic, with some great ideas and suggestions being put forward.
Wide variety of businesses
Keen to shake off its reputation as just a shop-keepers’ forum, the VBA welcomes all disciplines of business, so it was agreed that the name needed to change to make the group more accessible.
Around the table sat a Web developer, journalist and writer, baker, restaurateur, chiropractor, festival organisers, at least three holiday-home owners as well as a green-grocer, vintage shop owner and vintner.
Three main targets
It was agreed that the VBA would focus on three targets in the coming months; a campaign for better car-parking for residents, workers and visitors to the town; update the Ventnor visitor map and (by the end of March) submit an application to become a Portas Pilot – potentially gaining up to £100,000 grant for the town.
Change of management
Linda Chester from Bizzy Lizzy’s, who has been involved in the management committee of the VBA for many years was able to step down, after Mary King volunteered to take on the role of Chair.
Linda’s efforts for Ventnor over the years deserve to be recognised. She has done a great deal to make a positive impact on the town.
Anne Noon was voted Vice-Chair, Liz Whishaw Treasurer, Mark Randerson will be dealing with PR and marketing. Anne Hutchins would continue as Secretary but hoped to be able to step down at the next meeting. Lyn Blackledge, Kelsey Edwards and Paul McMullin also joined the management board.
The next meeting of the VBA (soon to be re-named) is 19th March at the Royal Hotel. If you are interested in getting involved, pop along and join the friendly group.
Details of the new joining fee will be issued shortly.
