Amazing opportunity to hear Jazz star in Shanklin

Thanks to Helen for the first piece of news from the 2014 Ventnor Music for Fun Festival. Ed

Ventnor Music for Fun Festival is doing something different this year! We are delighted to welcome international jazz singer, Tina May, to the Island to inspire and enthuse 200 primary school children and a dozen young members of the IW Youth Stage Band in February!

Workshops ahead of concert
The brainchild of The Bay Primary’s Hannah Larkin, Tina will be working with the children for two days of workshops, culminating in an exciting concert on Thursday February 13th in Shanklin Theatre, at 7.30pm, when she will sing some numbers on her own and some with the children.

Tickets are selling fast and at ONLY £5 adults, £3 children, it is not surprising!

More about Tina May
Tina May – internationally famous jazz ‘diva’ – will be performing a variety of well-known jazz numbers with the IW Youth Stage Band and friends, directed by Island jazz trombonist Martyn Stroud.

The concert promises to be a rare treat combining Tina’s rich and vibrant voice with the massed voices of 200 children from IW primary schools, who will have had two wonderfully inspiring days with Tina. During the workshops, the children will be learning about the fundamentals of jazz, including improvisation and scat singing, as well as learning famous jazz numbers to perform with Tina and the band.

Tina has been at the top of the jazz tree for more than two decades, is well known in Paris and London and has toured both at home and in many countries of the world working with the top names in jazz. Have a listen and read about her at tinamay.com.
