An Evening Of Success For Wight Fair Writers

Congratulations to all those who took part in the Wight Fair Writers’ Circle Christmas Writing Competition 2011. It was great to see so many VB readers getting involved once again.

The event at the churchThe competition was split into three categories, Under 12s, Under 18s and Adult entries. Carol Bridgestock shares the good news of who the winners were. Ed

Under 18s category
The Under 18s winner is George Davis. George comes from Medina High School and his story is called ‘Christmas Eve in Newport’ (we’ll be publishing it over the Christmas period). Mr Thomas is thrilled about this.

The second place in this category is Hannah Bean from Sandown Bay Academy and the third place was Maryn Brown from Ryde Academy. All teachers are pleased as despite the ‘shake ups’ of the schools their children have achieved so much.

Under 12s category
The Under 12 winner is Katy Haggerty from Shalfleet School – Katy is seven years old, second place in this category is Lydia Green from Holy Cross School in East Cowes and third place goes to Isabella Cassar from Shalfleet School.

Adult category
The Adult winner is Sandra Singleton from Niton, Second place goes to Lou McGuinness from Shanklin and in third place is Alison Trappit who won the competition last year.

Congratulations to all who took part, especially the winners. A whopping £500 was raised on the night of the presentation, which saw 100 people turn out to celebrate.

The winning stories will be published on VB over the Christmas period.
