Andrew Turner Under Spotlight Over NHS Job Cuts

Andrew Turner came under the spotlight at last night’s Stop The Cuts – Heal The Island meeting.

Andrew TurnerThe meeting was organised by the Stop The Cuts Alliance (STCA) to discuss what action could be taken to protect the proposed 600 NHS job losses planned over the next four years.

After speeches were given by various individuals on the proposed cuts to the IW NHS, Cllr Geoff Lumley called for Island residents to start putting pressure on the Island’s MP, Andrew Turner.

Manifesto did not include cuts to NHS
He went on to say that Andrew Turner had been elected on a manifesto that did not say it would make swingeing cuts to the National Health Service and that people needed to put pressure on him to do what he could to protect the Island’s NHS service.

This was met with an enthusiastic round of applause from the audience.

Time to pay back the support
STC Alliance member, Geoff Mason, reiterated the call from Cllr Lumley, pointing out that Andrew Turner had himself been in receipt of services in past years, when he suffered a stroke.

He felt sure that Mr Turner appreciated the great care that he’d received from the Island NHS and that it was time to show his support, but taking the Government to task over the cuts to NHS budgets.

We’ve been in touch with Andrew Turner’s office to ask for his views on the cuts to the NHS and will report back once we have a reply.
