Animation Night @ Quay Arts

If you like animation, then you’ll be wanting to head up to Newport on 29 May as Quay Arts will be holding an Animation Night!

Animation Night @ Quay Arts

You get to watch three innovative and imaginative animated films for the price of one.

A IS FOR AUTISM
(Short, Animation / Dir: Tim Webb / With Stewart Hogg, Daniel Sellers / UK 1992 / 11 mins / Cert E)
This award-winning short animation documents the experience of autism through a dazzling montage of words, drawings, music and sequences contributed by people with the condition. The man who advised and trained Dustin Hoffman for Rain Man is interviewed in this piece.

KIRIKOU AND THE SORCERESS (KIRIKOU ET LA SORCIÈRE)
(Animation / Dir: Michel Ocelot / France-Belgium-Luxembourg 1998 / 74 mins / Cert U)
Kirikou and the Sorceress was joint winner (with Chicken Run) of the 2002 British Animation Award for Best European Animated Feature. Showing how tiny but brave Kirikou outwits a powerful sorceress, this enchanting adventure was inspired by the folk stories of Senegal. Writer-director Michel Ocelot’s fresh vision of Africa is a world away from Disney’s singing lions and features an authentic soundtrack by Youssou N’dour.

SKY BLUE (WON-DEO-PUL DE-I-ZEU)
(Animation, Fantasy / Dir: Moon Sang Kim / With Jun Young Park, Moon Sang Kim / South Korea 2003 / Subtitles / 95 mins / Cert 15)

It’s 2140 and, after a catastrophic environmental disaster the only way to survive is to live in the last outcrop of human civilisation – Ecoban.

Sky Blue is a genre-bending film that takes animation to a previously unseen level of expression.
