Flood alert - gurnard luck

Another Isle of Wight flood alert issued: Gurnard Luck

Following the earlier Flood Alert by the Environment Agency for the Eastern Yar, an alert is also now in force for Gurnard Luck.

It reads:

Flooding is possible for: Gurnard Luck, Gurnard.

Be prepared.

The water level in the Gurnard Luck is high and rising. In the last eight hours, more than 20mm of rain has been recorded at Cowes. This is a modest amount, but it follows a few days of wet weather.

High tide at Cowes is expected at 12:30 this afternoon (09/08/21). The river will continue to rise and will remain high for at least three hours after time of high water (15:30), before it can drain with the lowering tide.

Between 14:00 and 15:30, properties nearest to the river, in Marsh Road, may experience garden flooding. Showers will continue to affect the Island until at least 16:00 this afternoon.

At Gurnard, the showers are unlikely to bring large totals of rain, so after high tide, it is unlikely that further impacts will occur from the river. We continue to monitor the forecast, and will ensure the river remains free of any reported blockages.

Until water levels fall with the lowering tide, please keep away from the river at Gurnard Road Bridge. Water will be deep and fast flowing.
