Appeal for information following vehicle arson in Cowes

Police are appealing for information and witnesses after a van was set on fire and park land damaged in Cowes.

At 3.30am on Monday, February 18, 2013 police were called to Northwood Park, Cowes following the report of a vehicle being driven in the grounds of Northwood House.

A white van was discovered on fire at the scene and the police would like to thank Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service for their assistance in putting out the blaze.

Extensive damage
Investigating Officer PC Nigel Allen said: “Whoever was driving this vehicle has caused extensive damage to Northwood Park which is an area enjoyed by residents and visitors to Northwood House. They appear to have deliberately targeted bins in the park to cause as much damage as possible”.

Two youths from the Isle of Wight were arrested this morning (Monday) on suspicion of arson. They are being questioned in police custody.
