Appeal for Witnesses After Man Found Unconscious In Newport

Police are appealing for information after a man was found unconscious lying next to a bicycle in Newport on Saturday night.

The 19-year-old Newport man was discovered on the pavement adjacent to the A3020, Parkhurst Road, close to Albany Prison shortly before midnight.

Police officers administered first aid at the scene before the man was taken to St Marys Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

Road closed for five hours
Parkhurst Road was sealed off for almost five hours while officers from the Roads Policing Unit examined the scene. The road was re-opened at 4.40am on Sunday.

It is not believed the cyclist was involved in a collision.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw the rider of a red mountain bike prior to the incident to contact the Roads Policing Unit at Shanklin Police Station on 101, quoting operation Tuba.
