Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after an allegation of racially aggravated abuse affecting a woman travelling aboard a bus on the Isle of Wight.
A 33-year-old woman of Oriental origin, who lives on the island, boarded a number five Southern Vectis service at Newport Bus Station at around 9.50pm on Monday, September 12, 2011.
Police investigating alleged abuse
Officers are continuing to investigate a report that the Oriental woman was the victim of racially aggravated verbal abuse spoken by another passenger on the bus.
It’s alleged the abuse took place between 10.05pm and 10.10pm on Monday, September 12, 2011 when the Oriental woman was getting off the bus in Whippingham.
Initial enquiries have established that several other passengers were on the number five service at the time and could be potential witnesses.
Police are appealing for these passengers to come forward so officers can establish the exact circumstances surrounding what happened.
