An early morning road traffic incident, where a car collided with an Openreach communications cabinet, has resulted in a loss of telephone and broadband services for dozens of residents in Arreton.
The single vehicle incident occurred around 4am on Sunday morning, crashing into the green cabinet on Main Road, Arreton, resulting in live cables being exposed.
Electrical supply affected
One News OnTheWight reader said they woke up to the loss of telephone and Internet services and later in the day, electricity was also lost for a short period of time. The resident said they’d been told the landline service would not be reinstated until 24th December 2021.
News OnTheWight got in touch with Openreach to find out how many residents are affected and when the service would be reinstated.
Openreach: A lot of work to do to get the repairs done
An Openreach spokesperson told News OnTheWight,
“We can confirm that our network was damaged when a car hit one of our green cabinets on Main Road, Arreton yesterday affecting broadband service to dozens of customers.
“We attended with our electricity company partners and made the area safe as live power was connected to the cabinet, but there’s a lot of work to do to get the repairs done and we expect it to take at least several days. We’ll update with more details as we have them.
“We understand how frustrating this must be for anyone affected and we thank everyone involved for their patience while we get things fixed. Anyone experiencing any disruption with their phone or broadband service should report it to their service provider who will then inform us.“Members of the public can help us by reporting any damage or unsafe equipment on our network via the Help and Support section of our website.”
We’ll update once we have more information from Openreach about the number of residents affected and when the service will be reinstated.
